Who We Are

Education Reimagined: A Microschool & Homeschool Expo is a free, family-friendly event that brings Greater Houston’s non-traditional education options into one place—microschools, hybrid programs, homeschool support, and enrichment—so families can meet providers in person and attend free parent workshops throughout the day.

The Expo exists because the education landscape is changing fast and parents are overwhelmed trying to compare options through scattered websites and word-of-mouth. With more learner-centered programs emerging—and ESAs/vouchers creating new urgency for families to understand what’s available and how to access it—this event helps parents get clear, ask real questions, and leave with next steps in one day.

Story Angles

TV

  • TEFA opens soon—Houston parents are preparing now.
What you’ll see: parents comparing options booth-to-booth + quick reactions after workshops.
Takeaway: the 5 questions families should ask before applying.

  • School Choice Week kickoff: what the “new education landscape” looks like in Houston.
What you’ll see: passport stamping, busy exhibitor aisle, families taking notes.
Takeaway: a simple “how to shop for fit” checklist.

  • What is a hybrid school? Why families are choosing part-time school + part-time home learning.
What you’ll see: local programs explaining schedules and supports; parent decision stories.
Takeaway: what a week actually looks like—and who it works for.

Print

  • Not public, not traditional private: Houston’s rise in flexible, learner-centered education.
Local ecosystem + who it serves + why demand is rising.

  • School Choice Week meets TEFA: what new funding could change in Houston’s education marketplace.
Parent decision-making + on-the-ground reporting from families at the Expo.

  • Before TEFA opens: how families compare options and avoid costly mistakes.
Service journalism: key questions, red flags, and decision criteria.

Radio

  • “Custom school” is here: how Houston families mix microschools, hybrid schedules, and a la carte learning.
Parent voices + practical “how we chose” framework.

  • A calm guide to choosing: what to ask, what to watch for, and how to evaluate fit.
Great for an explainer segment + call-ins.

  • Families are choosing differently now—Vouchers are accelerating it.
As TEFA approaches, more Houston families are exploring microschools, hybrid programs, and homeschooling support. This story highlights what’s driving the shift, what parents are considering, and how to prepare—plus an upcoming expo where parents can get all the information they need in one day.

If you cover Education Reimagined Expo, you’ll get a highly visual, people-filled story of Houston families actively comparing school options in real time—parents asking questions at exhibitor booths, collecting info to take home, and moving between the exhibitor hall and workshops as they decide what fits their child. It’s a “service segment” with authentic emotion and momentum: families looking for clarity, providers explaining options side-by-side, and a clear takeaway for viewers/listeners on what to ask and how to evaluate fit.

Top 3 visuals (best b-roll):

  1. Passport stamping + check-in (hands stamping, tote pickup, families starting their “route”)

  2. Packed workshop room (parents taking notes, speaker Q&A, quick reaction interviews outside the doors)

  3. Busy exhibitor aisle (wide shots of the hall + close-ups of booth conversations, brochures, signage, and “compare” moments)

Best b-roll window: 9:30–10:15 AM (check-in + passport stamping + first wave in the hall)

Meet the Organizer

Desiree Corbin is the organizer of Education Reimagined: A Microschool & Homeschool Expo and the founder of MindSprout Montessori, a Houston-area microschool and hybrid learning program. A former classroom teacher, she launched MindSprout to give families a more personalized, learner-centered option—small class sizes, flexible pathways, and supports tailored to each child. In 2025, MindSprout was named a Yass Prize Semifinalist, recognizing its work to expand education choices for families. Through the Expo, Desiree connects parents with real, local alternatives—microschools, hybrid programs, homeschool resources, and enrichment—so families can compare options in one day and leave with clear next steps.
